Oct 09, 2018 I have a Mac Pro 4,1 (early 2009) and wish to install El Capitan v10.11.6 as a fresh new OS on a Samsung 850 EVO - 1TB. AS expected I have read allot about this particular drive having issues with TRIM support under Mac OS not to mention that the interface on the Mac Pro 4,1 is SATA II and I see that only SATA III supports 'queued TRIM Commands'. The Samsung 860 EVO with V-NAND technology is backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Warrantied TBW for 860 EVO: 150 TBW for 250 GB model, 300 TBW for 500 GB model, 600 TBW for 1 TB model, 1,200 TBW for 2 TB model and 2,400 TBW for 4 TB model. Samsung (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology 4.8 out of 5 stars 3,846 $189.99 $ 189. 99 $249.99 $249.99.
Is the Samsung EVO 860 1TB fit for an iMac 21,5 inch mid 2011? Or should i be looking at another SSD to replace for my harddisk? How to install the OS Installation startup on the new SSD, so the flashing folder removes and i can format it? I've been searching the internet for answers, had contact with support and still didn't had my answer. Yes, the Samsung 860 EVO SSD will work in your system. But, if you are planning on sticking with El Capitan you’ll need to enable TRIM manually after you’ve updated the OS to the latest maintenance release 10.11.6. Follow this guide How to Enable TRIM on Third Party SSDs in Mac OS X with trimforce. Click on the Apple icon (top-right corner) then choose About This Mac. Click on System Report. On the left pane of the System Information window, under Hardware navigate to SATA/SATA.
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.

- Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
- After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
- Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
